Act1, scene1, line 90-95 " You have her father's love, Demetrius; Let me have Hermia's: do you marry him." Before this quote Egues has told Hermia to wed or to be dead. Hermia must marry Demetrius or be sent to a nunnery and die a virgin.Hermia's heart is with Lysander. Lysander tries to defend there love towards each other. After the passage Hermia and Lysander plan on running away with each other to be wed.The law of Athens forbid them to wed so Lysander tells Hermia to meet him in the forest to run away to a far place where the law of Athens can't impose them. As they meet and fall asleep in the forest the fairies planned a plot to mess everything up. The trait here is his bravery. He stood up to the law, the "to-be-husband" and Hermia's father. Lysander: Romance Act1, scene1, lines 125-150 " How now, my love! why is your cheek so pale? how chance the roses there do fade so fast" Before this passage Hermia's father announced that Hermia is to wed Demetrius not Lysander. Hermia and Lysander love each other very much. Egeus, Hermia's father, Likes Demetrius more. Egues gave Hermia the choice to die or marry Demetrius. Lysander stood up for there love but that went no where. After the passage Lysander and Hermia run into the forest to runaway so they can be wed where the Athen law can't apply to them. While they are in the forest Helena, Hermia's sister, over hears them talking about them running away and tells Demetrius. While all four of them are in the forest the fairies decide to play a couple of tricks. This quote shows how much Lysander cares about his love so his trait is romance. Lysander: Respectful Act5, scene1,line 315 "She hath spied him already with those sweet eyes." Right before this passage Lysander was released from the spell the fairies have put upon him to love Helena. Now Hermia and Lysander are back to normal/before and love each other. The fairies decided to leave the spell on Demetrius so that Helena is happy with the fact that Demetrius loves her. During this passage Lysander is really showing his respect towards women. All four of them still don't know that the fairies have done. Since, they all love each other and everyone is happy Egeus decides to remove the law that was against Hermia and Lysander that was preventing them from being wed. Now Helena and Demetrius will wed. At the same time so will Helena and Demetrius. And that is what happens at the end of the book, a happy ending. |
